I see many posts about #Bangalore from those who are relocating to the city to join their companies post pandemic.
“It’s a nice city. Weather is nice; people and pubs are nice but quality of life (especially the traffic) is horrible” seem to be the general theme.
This is not something new. Those who have “managed” Bangalore for the last 15-20 years, would realise that their appraisal ratings and comments for Bangalore more or less remains the same.
So, here is a 3-piece advice to the new comers to make the best of what the city has to offer.
1. Stay as close to your workplace as possible – and invest those three hours that you would save (by not being on the road), on your health and well being. Pay the extra rent you need to pay to stay closer. It’s well worth it. Most apartments will have a gym or a swimming pool. They will have provision for a cycle track or at least a walking track. A tennis court or a fitness centre will certainly be in close vicinity. Make the most of them.
2. Avoid PG accommodations. Some of them are okay, but most of them are pathetic. The food is not hygienic and you don’t want to get sick even before you settle down. Instead, rent an apartment with a kitchen along with your friends/co-workers and hire a maid who would cook food for you. I would even go to the extent saying avoid office cafeteria food if possible. Get the maid to cook the tiffin/lunch for you which will be much more hygienic and kind on your stomach.
3. Travel – Once your accommodation and food is sorted, do take time to travel around. Bangalore culture is best experienced outside of those Technology Parks and Apartment complexes :). Get out and get around!
Bangalore is a start up city (no – I am not talking about the unicorns Bangalore produces every month).
I meant, living in the city is similar to being in a start up. It’s beautiful from the outside & chaotic from the inside. It attracts a lot of funding, has a soaring valuation but its business model and governance is still in the making! Outsiders aspire to be a part of this wonderful company, and those who are in it are still figuring out the best way to survive the everyday grind.
Finally, the early stage investors (who invested in the city long back) are still figuring out an exit strategy 🙂 ;)!
Welcome to Bangalore :)…
