Remembering the good old business (foreign) trips!
The best one I had was back when I was working for Barclays at Singapore. It was an all-business-class direct flight from SGP to NewYork. It was just for one week in the first half of December. So, the only thing we all remembered after the trip was the Singapore Airlines hospitality, lounges and of course the pre-Christmas madness at the Times Square!
I must admit I was fortunate to have traveled around the world during my formative years of the career. My first passport was filled almost till the last page. By the time I had my second passport, it was me writing lengthy business justifications for my team member’s travel :). My own trips reduced to a few high-impact meet-and-greet trips. My recently renewed passport is to yet see a stamp on it!
The adrenaline rush prepping for a travel is immense. On the work front, you need to deliver a return on investment of your travel (especially at a start-up/take-off stage company). On the personal front, you are under pressure to click a selfie at all the must-visit places! 🙂
In the post-COVID world though, will be interesting to see how one justifies a travel. It will all boil down to one question – if we could do it remotely during COVID, why not now?
Happy Answering! 🙂
