Working On A Sunday Evening!

Management Lessons

My most productive work time is the Sunday evening!

Yeah! As strange as it sounds, I start my work week on a Sunday evening. Felt Sunday evenings to be very boring and started opening a laptop (instead of a book) and this habit stayed on!

In good old days (when I used to code), I made it a point to finish nearly half of my week’s planned coding on a Sunday night. If nothing else, I used to write and fail skeletal unit test cases and the rest of the week was to add code to make those test cases pass (no kidding)!

Off late, Sunday evenings are for writing/reviewing documents; cleaning up outlook; noting follow ups; drafting email responses; organising calendar; planning weekly deliverables for myself and team;

For sometime, I had gotten carried away and started sending those emails Sunday evening itself. I got feedback a few years back from my directs that it freaked them out :). So, I have stopped hitting the send button but have them saved in drafts instead.

This routine helped me overcome Monday blues. However, what I still struggle is to wind up work by Friday afternoon (like the others who have similar habit of starting on Sunday evenings). I hope to get to this some day for sure!

Thanks for reading and have a great week ahead!
