The Year Of COVID!

Personal Stories

While growing up as a young teen (in a remote town in Odisha tucked in the Eastern Ghats), one of my constant wish-list item was to travel alone. On those rare occasions that I did, I preferred a longer train route than a bus route.

The best part of the journey was the unending number of tunnels that the train used to pass through. The raw smell of the tunnel, with splashes of water that made their way through the cracks and the sound of the bats! and finally coming out of the tunnel only to wait for the next one!

The train journey was not safe; constant breakdowns/ track repairs would cause unending delays. That “uncertainty” had a unique “kick” in itself. What if the train breaks down in the middle of the tunnel or on top of a bridge?

Year 2020 has been pretty much the same! Tunnel after tunnel (with an element of “bats” in it :))… Just when we were heading towards a good news of a vaccine, there is yet another virus strain taking us into another tunnel!

While we are passing through this “uncertain” journey of the pandemic, each of us are taking calculated risks venturing out. Whatever it is, enjoy the tunnels that you are passing through. Light or no light at the end of it, hope you are enjoying the raw smell while you are at it!

Wish you all a happy holiday season!
